Etxaniz Txakolina 'Txomin Etxaniz' Getariako Txakolina 2009
Spain
We have long been fans of this unique Basque white wine. Made from 85% Hondarrabi Zuri and 15% Hondarrabi Beltza, both indigenous. It's a fabulous fresh, really zesty white of only 10.5% alcohol. Greengage, green apple and lime on the nose, a similar palate with saline, white peach and crisp acidity. Bracing, and amazingly refreshing, great summer white.

El Escoces Volante 'El Puno' Vino de Mesa 2009

Cracking new wine made by Scottish MW Norrel Robertson. From vineyards in Calatayud (no DO exists for 100% Viognier). The vines are very low yielding and production is just 4,000 bottles, aged sur lie in oak. Aromatic with white peach and grapey fruit notes with toasty oak. Powerful, yet textured, lovely honeyed fruit with spice, toasty oak and good acidity. Long and very complex.

Bodegas Naia 'Naiades' Verdejo Rueda 2007
Spain
An extraordinary wine produced from 8 small plots of ancient, mainly pre-phylloxera vines (many well over 100 years old). Fermentation and ageing in new French oak for 8 months results in a seamless and vibrant mix. Rich and nutty on the nose, and likewise on the palate really honeyed and creamy with lots of tangy stone fruit and citrus, a touch herbaceous with real zest. Incredible length the oak beautifully integrated and fresh acidity running through giving it perfect balance. Long and amazingly complex.

Castell d'Encus 'Ekam' Costers del Segre 2008
Spain
Made by Raul Bobet the ex Torres technical director, from very high altitude vineyards of between 800 and 100 meters above sea level. An intriguing blend of 85% Riesling and 15% Viognier. It's peach and limey, really perfumed with excellent acidity. Tangy and zesty and really complex with a mineral streak on the long finish. Really interesting wine.

Bodegas Carchelo 'Altico' Syrah Jumilla 2008

Creamy nose with attractive soft fruits, quite gamey too. Dense with masses of black fruits and creamy oak, spice and soft tannins. It's really bright on the palate with simalar notes. Dense and typically powerfull for Jumilla and Syrah, it's creamy and spicy and totally delicious, long and really rounded.

Really attractive perfumed nose with sweet oak too. Really well balanced style with ripe berry fruits, spice and oak, slightly herbal, and ripe tannins. This is a really intriguing modern style of Rioja, From 60+ year old vines. Lovely sweet fruit on the nose. Intense black fruits with redcurant and creamy oak. Good acidity, Graciano has a different structure to Tempranillo. It's long, rich, distinctive and absolutely superb!
