Adega de Moncao Vinho Verde Branco 2009

From the best sub region for Vinho Verde- Moncao. It's bottled in a traditional brown flute which means it's not the best packaged. It's a blend of the region's premium grape Alvarinho and Trajadura. Fresh aromatic nose with sherbet-like lime and some stone fruit in this vintage too. Has a fair bit of spritz to it, it's dry, lively and tangy. Lovely lime and subtle white peach fruit on the palate with a touch of classic saline. Really crisp and refreshing, it's a little riper this year with a greater weight of fruit and up half a degree of alcohol at 11.5%, but still a great aperitif.

Santo Isidro De Pegoes 'Stella Blanco' Muscat 2009

Stella Blanco is a lovely perfumed dry Muscat. From the sun baked Pegoes region. Classic perfumed grapey nose, realy appealing, flowery with hints of stone fruits too. It's dry and crisp on the palate, grapey and fresh with delicate spice and again some stone fruits. It's got pretty good acidity too, and served well chilled makes a fabulous wine to drink in the warm weather. It's so distinctive and grapey, really appealing wine that needs to be drunk fresh and young. Great value too

Dao Sul 'Cabriz' Dao Colheita Selecionada Branco 2009

Portugal

Made from Malvasia-Fina, Encruzado, Cerceal and Bical all vinified seperately. 'Colheita Seleccionada ' means harvest selection. Attractive perfumed nose with grape, citrus, quite floral with hints of white peach. It's quite a gentle styled white with pleasent grapey fruit, citrus and ripe pear and apple. It's tangy and fresh with good acidity but also quite rounded. A wine best enjoyed in warmer weather, but very pleasant and makes a nice change. Clean and fresh, delicious. The 2009 is another success in what has become a very popular white wine.

Filipa Pato 'Bossa' Branco Vinhos Doidos 2009

A side project from the talented Filipa Pato. This is actually marketed under the Vinhos Doidos name which apparently means crazy, Bossa the name of the wine is named after the brazilian dance. I tried it with Filipa in March and was most impressed. It's a blend of two local varieties Bical and Maria Gomes. Made in a simple way to emphasise it's freshness and immediate appeal. Quite floral and grapey on a perfumed nose. It's grapey and peachy on the palate too, again floral with some spice. It's really tangy, fresh and attractive and great summer drinking, characterful and appealing, the spice on the finish also making it a good food wine.

Dao Sul 'Cabriz' Dao Colheita Selecionada Tinto 2008

Portugal

The red partner to the Cabriz white. The Cabriz red is a fairly full bodied wine. Made from Alfrocheiro, Tinta-Roriz and Touriga-Nacional grapes, again all local varieties and aged in French oak for six months. Full with warm, ripe berry fruits, spice and just a touch of oak. Really good with local spring lamb! Would make a versatile food matching wine.

Palestra Douro Tinto Touriga Franca-Tinta Roriz-Tinta Barroca 2008

Portugal

This is a lovely rich, yet soft wine from the Douro region, home of port wines. The classic port varieties are used to make this delicious red, Touriga-Franca, Tinta-Roriz and Tinta-Barroca. Aged in oak for six months, this is a really versatile juicy red that will accompany many foods, not a term i use too often but has a mellow character. Crowd pleasing style.
